Father, thank You for Your word in the Scriptures. Thank You for the times when I’ve trusted Your word and found You to be totally faithful. Please enable me, day by day, to hear and receive all that You show me through the Bible. Amen.
2 Timothy 3:16, NET

I’ve been reading an absolutely fascinating book. It wasn’t an easy read because there’s a lot of science in it, and I’m no scientist. But I’ve managed to get my head around most of it. It was written by a historian of science, and what’s so exciting about it is that he shows that, despite what so many people think and say, the best recent science points to what Christians believe: that the universe was created by God. For most of the previous century, that wasn’t the case. But recent discoveries and calculations about the universe and life point more and more to a Creator behind it all, just as Scripture asserts.

The Bible is true. Some Bible scholars have doubted the accuracy of the biblical record of events and places. But time after time, archaeological discoveries have confirmed the Bible. For instance, for a long time it was believed that Belshazzar, the king in Daniel 5, never existed, because there was a record of the kings of Babylon that covered every year and didn’t include Belshazzar. That was until documents were found that showed that, for a time, Belshazzar ruled as co-regent with his father.

Once, many scholars thought that John’s Gospel contained a lot of fiction and was written long after the life of Jesus by someone who had no personal knowledge of Jerusalem before its destruction in AD 70. They believed that the Pool of Bethesda (John 5) was pure invention. That is, until archaeologists discovered it, exactly as John describes it.

It’s not just science and archaeology that confirm the truth of Scripture. The personal experience of Christians does just the same. Over and over again, I meet with believers with testimonies of God’s faithfulness in healing, financial provision, reliable guidance, and in so much more besides, just as He is described in the Bible. And, of course, I have my own. When it comes to the Bible’s understanding of the human personality, our body, soul and human spirit, daily experience proves just how true it all is.

Of course, there are things in the Bible that we can’t prove to be true. But because there’s so much that we can, and because everything in the Bible is so consistent, then it makes sense to believe it all.

On top of all of this, as I read my Bible each day, I hear God speaking to me. I can receive His truth deep into my inner being where it encourages, challenges, corrects, heals, restores, guides, and brings me closer to Him.

However you look at it, the Bible is true.

Richard Griffiths When Richard retired from full-time Anglican ministry in Chichester in 2009, he and his wife, Sue, moved to Northumberland. He joined the ministry team at Ellel Grange in 2011, where he and Sue regularly ministered at healing retreats. They are now helping on the "Explore" team. They greatly enjoy walking in the beautiful Northumberland countryside and along the coast. Richard loves seeing God bringing people into a strong personal relationship with Him as their Father and the healing that comes with it.
