The Joy of Security

I give to my sheep eternal life, and they will never perish; neither shall anyone pluck them out of my hand.
John 10:28, NIV

Growing up in a Christian family and having been brought up to attend Sunday school from infancy gave me the privilege of hearing and learning Scripture verses from early days. But winning prizes for learning ‘memory verses’ did not automatically ensure that the truths of those verses were fully understood; although they were never lost.

Then, even though there was the experience of ‘trusting the Saviour’ as a child, the full impact of that experience did not fully dawn until a number of years later. The full truth of the joy and security that is ours when we trust in the completeness of what our Lord Jesus accomplished at Calvary only then became a reality.

It was whilst reading Philippians 3:12 that the truth of the words, ‘Christ Jesus made me His own’ dawned upon my spirit. As these words were reflected upon, the truth of Galatians 2:20 where Paul says ‘The Son of God loved me, and gave Himself for me’ came as a personal revelation.

From that time there has never been a doubt or question regarding who or what I am in Jesus. The joy of this kind of security is something I believe God wants everyone to have –everyone who has come to trust in His Son as Saviour. He wants us to fully appreciate and live in this security. Let these words and truths penetrate your spirit today.

Prayer: Father God, I thank You for Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, whom You gave to be the Saviour of all who believe in Him and trust Him for their eternal salvation. I thank You for the joy and security that comes through the simple faith You give us, as we trust in Him. Amen.

David Silvester is married and has a son, two daughters and eight grandchildren. He trained as a production engineer. He then moved on to become a lecturer of engineering craft skills before being called of God in his early fifties to become a pastor of a Baptist church. He says that,"having previously experienced an amazing healing on a day others expected me to die, it came as no surprise that God directed me and my wife, Margaret, to become involved with Ellel Ministries."
