The Invitation

The Kingdom of Heaven is like a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to those who had been invited to the banquet to tell them to come, but they refused to come...So the King told them: Go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you can find. So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, both good and bad, and the wedding hall was filled with guests
Matthew 22:2-3,NIV

Jesus told this parable to illustrate Gods wonderful invitation, not only for the Jewish
people of that day, but for all people everywhere, to enter the Kingdom of God. I love to receive an invitation, especially to a wedding, but God’s invitation to come into His Kingdom is the most important one that we’ll ever receive in our whole life.

God the Father has prepared a place for us in His Kingdom, and invites each one of us personally, to come. He calls us to receive His kindness, mercy and forgiveness and to wear the wedding garment that He’s provided for us. The wedding garment covers all
our unworthiness and prepares us to be His royal guest.

Many people who were invited to the banquet in this parable were either too busy or
had better things to do. Some just refused to come. Some even abused the messengers. There was one person that did turn up, but thought he was respectable enough without wearing the special wedding garments provided. He was thrown out because he didn’t acknowledge how much the garment had cost the King’s Son.

‘For you know it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were
redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but
with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect’
(1 Peter 1:18,19).

What a debt of love we owe to the Lord Jesus. We’re not only invited to receive
eternal life and be part of the Kingdom of God but He wants to put our lives back
together again, so that we can live as He intended. The banquet is prepared, in this
parable. The King is waiting for a response.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank You for inviting me to come to Your banquet. Thank You for putting my life back together again and making every provision possible. I come to you now, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
