Seeds of the Kingdom

Nothing is Wasted

by Ruth Hawkey

Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them. Who passing through the valley of Baca make it a well.
Psalms‬ ‭84:5-6,KJV

Today a good friend of mine expressed her grief over the loss of her husband a year ago. My heart went out to her and as I listened and wept with her I longed to give her some words of comfort. Sometimes, in the past I have found myself saying, rather glibly, “I know how you feel,” however, this time I did know how she felt, because I too had lost my husband a couple of years ago, and, like her, had walked the path of grief.

Today, the Lord led me to Psalm 84, where the psalmist talks about making the valley a well. I suppose all the tears and anguish that are an important part of grief could do that. But it’s the love and understanding, born of experience of what others are walking through, that’s a real source of help and strength to them, and from which they can draw.
In God’s economy, friends, nothing is wasted.

Prayer: Heavenly Father we pray for those who grieve from loss of any kind today. We ask that You will be their source of comfort in their pain. Use us to be a well of love and understanding from which they can drink. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
