Lost and Found

It never ceases to amaze me how God is interested in every detail of our lives, and how He cares for us as individuals. One Sunday morning, just recently, I decided I would like to wear my silver cross. I went to the usual place to get it, but found the box was empty. I searched in all the places I keep my jewellery, but to no avail. I felt really sad, not least, because the cross had been bought for me by my husband.
Dean joined me in the search, but still we could not find the cross. I had to get breakfast ready, and Dean needed to take our dog out, and I didn’t want to make us late for church.
In our prayer time after breakfast, Dean asked the Lord if He would bring to the surface and cause the cross to be seen, if it was anywhere in the house. He was remembering the story in 2 Kings 6 about the axe head that fell into the river, but then floated to the surface after Elisha had thrown a stick into the water.
I was putting things away in the kitchen, when Dean called me to the bedroom. He took me to my wooden jewellery box and told me to look in the top compartment, and there was the cross! I had looked there before, but hadn’t seen it! I was overjoyed at getting it back, but even more so because the Lord had heard Dean’s request.
Jesus understood the joy of a woman who found her lost coin, but He, and indeed the angels, rejoice over one sinner who turns to God in repentance. We all sin against the Lord at times, and sometimes, we may feel too ashamed to return to Him. The enemy wastes no time in telling us how rotten we are, and if we listen to him long enough, we believe it, and we end up withdrawing from the Lord, and, maybe, from His people as well. If you are in that place today, don’t let Satan rob you and lie to you a minute longer. The Lord is waiting with open arms to welcome you.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come to You, just as I am. Please will You forgive me and cleanse me from my sin. Thank You that Jesus promised never to turn away anyone who came to Him, so I come to You right now. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Gemma Gardner lives in Norfolk with her husband, Dean, who until recently worked at Ellel Grange. They are both part of the Associate Ministry team which Gemma joined after completing the Modular school. Gemma has experienced the Lord`s healing and restoration over many years and longs to see Him healing other broken people.
