Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Light of Life

by Pam Smith

Then Jesus spoke to them again saying, 'I am the light of the world, He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life'.
John 8:12, NKJV

The darkness can’t put out the light, but when you put the light on, the darkness has to recede. When the sun turns to darkness, it’s because there’s something blocking it. An eclipse of the moon blocks out the sun for a few moments. The light’s still there, only we can’t see it. In the same way Jesus is there even if people can’t believe in Him

If you have the true light of the world, Jesus, in your life, the contrasting darkness all around you can make that light within you appear to shine even brighter. His light also exposes all sorts of things that would lie hidden in the dark, and I’m amazed at the things that are revealed to us when God’s light comes into our lives.

When we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and hold up the truth, it’s as if God turns on the light in people’s lives. His light reveals what’s false and what’s true. Perhaps this is what Jesus meant when He said to His disciples, “you are the light of the world” (Matthew 5:14).

This wonderful old hymn by George Matheson says so much about the light of Jesus:
"O Light that followest all my way,
I yield my flickering torch to Thee;
My heart restores its borrowed ray,
That in Thy sunshine’s blaze its day may brighter, fairer be."

Prayer: Father, thank You for the light of Your Son that has shone deep in my heart. Help me to hold Your light up high, that its blaze may be brighter in this dark world. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
