Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Jesus with Skin On

by Lynda Scott

All of us, then, reflect the glory of the Lord with uncovered faces; and that same glory, coming from the Lord, who is the Spirit, transforms us into his likeness in an ever greater degree of glory.
2 Corinthians 3:18, GNT

When we choose to follow Jesus and His Spirit comes to live inside of us, one of the things that starts to happen is the Holy Spirit starts to make us like Jesus. This is of course not an overnight transformation. For those of us with some big bumps the transformation takes some time. But day by day, bit by bit, we are transformed into the likeness of Jesus and we become more and more like Him.

I was impacted by this truth a few days ago. One of my children came out of bed late one night not able to sleep, shaking and feeling scared. All they wanted to do was to sit with me. I started saying all the right things, like “You don't need to be scared” and “Jesus is with you”. I realized, though, that all my words didn’t help the shaking stop. Rather it was simply me being there and holding them that helped. They said to me “When I'm with you I don’t feel afraid”. So, quite profoundly, I found that I was being like Jesus for my child, I was being Jesus with skin on.

As parents, of younger children especially, we have a special responsibility to represent and be Jesus for our children. Many is the time we may feel inadequate for the job. But just our being there, and holding our child in the time of need, is something we can do. Taking time to listen to them talk about their day, that is being like Jesus.

So, whatever our circumstances, we can be like Jesus and do things like Jesus would do. Don’t try too hard. Just relax, and show Jesus’ love amongst the people in your world.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You that, because I’ve chosen to follow You, Your Holy Spirit lives inside of me and is making me more like You. Help me to be like You, Jesus, to my family and friends, and help me to show them Your love. In Your name, Amen.
