Seeds of the Kingdom

I Have Drawn You To Me

by Pam Smith

For long ago the Lord had said to Israel, “Yes, I have loved you, O my people, with an everlasting love, with loving kindness I have drawn you to me.”
Jeremiah 31:3, LB

There comes a time when spring arrives. The winter is past, and the snow is over and gone. The flowers spring up, the birds start singing, the leaves come out and there’s blossom everywhere. And there comes a time when the seeds planted in our lives burst forth into new life and grow.

There’s a time in our lives when the Son of God draws us personally to Himself. As the Lord said to Israel ‘Yes, I have loved you, O my people, with an everlasting love, with loving kindness I have drawn you to me’ (Jeremiah 31:3).

We may be in school, or at work. We may be with family or travelling somewhere. We may be shopping or in Church, doing the housework or out in the country alone. We may be in prison or in hospital or even at war somewhere, but we wherever we are we will hear His gentle voice calling us at that particular time and place.

The Bible says that God loved us before we even knew Him. "This is love; not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins (1 John 4:10), and ‘We love him because he first loved us" (1 John 4:19).

I came across a small book called ‘The Hound of Heaven’. It was a poem written in old English, with expressive drawings, about the persistent pursuit of the Lord after the one who was running away from his Love. At the end of the poem the Lord says ‘Rise, clasp my hand and come’.

The Lord could outrun us, but He’s too patient and longsuffering to do that. But we can’t ever escape from His presence. ‘Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend into heaven you are there. If I make my bed in Sheol, behold You are there. If I take the morning winds and fly to the farthest oceans, even there Your hand will guide me, Your strength will support me’ (Psalm 139:7-12).

There are many wonderful things in this life such as the beauty of the Creation and the innocence of a child – but more wonderful than anything else is the revelation that comes when we receive the Saviour’s love and when we let Him change us into a brand new person inside, and we become born of the Spirit of God.

I’ve found a Friend, O such a Friend! He loved me ‘ere I knew Him;
He drew me with the cords of love, And thus He bound me to Him.
And round my heart still closely twine Those ties which naught can sever;
For I am His, and He is mine, For ever and for ever.
(James G.Small)

Prayer: Lord, I’m so comforted by Your pursuing love. Thank You that I can never get away from Your Spirit. May I lift You up, that many will be drawn to You each day. In Jesus’ Name.
