The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and they are life.
John 6:63

Starting with the conversation between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well in John Chapter 4, Jesus teaches the people again and again that He is the bread of life, He is the living water, and He is the one who brings spiritual life – eternal life nourished by spiritual bread and spiritual living water. Let’s have a look at John Chapter 6.

Jesus says, ‘he who believes has everlasting life. I am the bread of life’ (John 6:47-48 NIV). This life grows within you, He says. It is hidden underneath the exterior of ordinary human beings like you and me.  No one can see what’s happening inside. Our outsides look just the same.

But, inside that physical body, the new spiritual life grows. Starting with that “Yes” to Jesus, it grows. Like a spot of sunlight rising silently at dawn, it spreads and grows into heat and warmth, growing in radiance.  As we keep on feeding on the living bread and keep on drinking deeply from that living water, our lives can’t help but reflect something of the radiance of Jesus in who we are and how we behave and how we react.

When death comes to those who love Jesus, something amazing happens. The shining glorious spiritual life of the person –hidden within its ordinary human exterior, now has a new spiritual body to match it! That’s why Jesus says He brings eternal life: the life He brings doesn’t stop when we physically die! It’s eternal life!

There is going to be a last day, a day when those who have died knowing the life of Jesus within them, will be raised again with new spiritual bodies to match the spiritual life they have lived here on earth in Jesus. It’s completion day.

I am the bread of life.  He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty’ (John 6:35).

‘If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him’ (John 7:37-38).

The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and they are life’ (John 6:63).
