High Places

by Diane Watson

Azariah did what was right in the sight of the Lord, except that the high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. Then the Lord struck the king, so that he was a leper until the day of his death, so he dwelt in an isolated house.
2 Kings 15:3-5, NKJV

I’m always amazed as I read the Old Testament stories of the kings. There weren’t many who followed the Lord and did what was right, and even those who did still allowed the high places to remain, which eventually caused their downfall.

I felt prompted by the Lord to ask the question “Lord are there any ‘high places’ in my life or heart that aren’t cut down and surrendered to You?”

We can go about our Christian journey and think we’re doing alright, but if we aren’t constantly challenged by God to get rid of those things that hinder us in our walk with the Lord, then our lives can be stagnant or full of problems.

We need to be constantly seeking God’s heart for our heart and asking Him to reveal those ‘high places’, those things we put above Him in our lives and hearts.

Can we humble ourselves today and ask God to search our hearts and give Him permission to tear down those ‘high places’, so that we have the abundant life that He promises to us?

Prayer: Heavenly Father, would You help me today to surrender those ‘high places’ to You. Firstly, Lord, would You show me what they are, so they can be torn down, and nothing will hinder my relationship with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
