Fear of Tomorrow

On the fifteenth day of the second month after the Israelites left the land of Egypt, the whole congregation of the Israelites grew discontented and murmured and rebelled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness. They desired to be back in Egypt, because of the bread and meat they had there. Without pots of meat and bread in wilderness, the Israelites got scared. They felt insecure. Insecurity led to rebellion, discontentment and even wishful thinking.

In the same way, we may have fears of letting go and walking the road the Lord has planned for us, for fear of losing some of the things we have today.
God showed them, they didn’t need to be in Egypt to have food to eat. He rained down food every day for them. (If God’s calling you, don’t be afraid to respond for fear of losing some things you have today, for He’s able to provide for you, even in your tomorrow).

God instructed the Israelites, to only gather a day’s portion. He wanted them to trust Him for each day’s provision and not to worry about tomorrow’s. They obeyed Him and found that there was just enough for everybody.

But some of the Israelites had difficulty trusting. They didn’t have enough faith in the Lord to trust His word. Yet He’d promised He’d provide for tomorrow and He was going to honour His word. They didn’t need to fear about tomorrow’s food.

God didn’t want them to put their trust in storing food, but some of the Israelites kept some of the food for the next day, against the Lord’s instructions. Moses instructed them to eat everything and not save any for tomorrow. Those who didn’t listen, and had fear about tomorrow, ended up putting some aside. What would have been of benefit on the day, ended up being a waste, for it had rotted on the following day.
The only time God enabled them to gather bread for tomorrow was on the day before the Sabbath. He wanted them to have a day off and spend a Sabbath with Him. In our busy tight schedule, we need to establish a day off and spend a Sabbath with the Lord, without fear of tomorrow. The Lord will provide in advance for the day you set aside to be your Sabbath with Him.

Just like the Israelites, the Lord want us today to be encouraged and know that His faithfulness is new every morning. That’s enough to make us eager to face tomorrow. If His faithfulness is new every morning, then we should cast away the fear of facing tomorrow. When tomorrow comes, we’ll not only see His faithfulness, but His mercies too will be waiting for us.

The Lord want us to build our hope and confidence in Him. Our security and confidence for tomorrow is to be founded in Him, who’s the hope of glory. It’s not in what we have, who we are, our achievements, our connections or how much cash is stashed in our bank accounts. Just trust and believe in Him for tomorrow.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for You provide for my daily needs. You give me my daily bread, for I’m yours. Forgive me when I’ve trusted my own efforts to give me confidence for tomorrow. Let all my confidence and hope for tomorrow be founded in You only. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
