Seeds of the Kingdom

Faithful to His Promises

by Lynda Scott

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”
Hebrews 10:35-36, NIV

Today I want to talk to you about the faithfulness of our God. When we come to the Lord we enter into a living relationship with the King of the universe. He is with us no matter what we are facing, even when we face difficulties. All the life-giving resources of being in the Kingdom of God are now at our disposal.

When my husband and I married we were excited about starting a family. But a year into our marriage we were totally devastated with two late miscarriages at 15 and 20 weeks of our first two children, whom we named Jack and Lily. This was not my idea of how things should be going. Having children seemed so easy for so many other couples, yet for us we were suffering greatly. Some may have turned away from God at this point, but this was the very time that I knew I needed God and His help more than ever before. One thing I had learned about God over the years is that He is faithful to His promises. So for me to even attempt another pregnancy I knew I needed a promise from God. I cried out to Him day after day until within a few weeks at a church women’s conference, God gave me His promise - ‘I would hold a child in my arms by this time the following year’ (2 Kings 4:16).

God’s promises are truly like gold - they are one of the life-giving resources of the Kingdom. When a promise has been received, God will be faithful. He is faithful. He cannot be anything but faithful.

So when I became pregnant again a few months later I held onto that promise that He had given me with everything that I had. However having suffered such a major loss I still found the fear right there in my ear, whispering “What if….?” In spite of the fear, I chose to put my faith in God and His promise. Faith is not the absence of fear, rather it is pressing through the fear and choosing to believe God above all else. This is exactly what today’s verse from Hebrews is talking about. I persevered and it was the will of God for me to do this, so that I would receive what He had promised.

11 months later I indeed held a child in my arms, our beautiful daughter Kirilee, just as He had promised! Praise God.

Maybe today you are facing an insurmountable difficulty and you can’t see the way forward. You may need a financial breakthrough, need Jesus to heal you, you may be longing to have a child or you need a breakthrough in a relationship. Come today to the Lord and seek Him with all your heart for His promise for your situation. Once the promise is received ask Him to confirm it, so you know without doubt that the Lord has given you His word. Then hold on, no matter how long it takes. He always comes through at the right time.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank You so much that You are faithful and that I can fully depend on Your promises. Please give me Your word of promise for my situation. Help me to hold on to Your promises and grant me the joy of seeing You fulfill those promises in Your perfect timing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
