Excuse Me Your Rejection Is Showing

by Tracy Bankuti

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hid their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
Isaiah 53:3, NIV

Here’s a quiz to see if rejection has been part of your life.

Have you been excluded, dismissed, given the cold shoulder, turned down, made redundant, abandoned, hated, scorned, mocked, persecuted, the butt of someone’s joke, falsely accused, neglected, bullied, or abused? (This is not an exhaustive list).

If you can answer yes to any of these scenarios, then rejection may have come into your life.

As discouraging as this may be, there is a solution to the deep emotional pain and disappointment that comes from being rejected.  Many of us know Jesus as Friend, Brother, Saviour, Deliverer, and Lord, but do you know Him as the Man of Sorrows who is familiar with grief and suffering?  Have you encountered the One whom men hid their faces from, the One who can bear the title, ‘World’s most rejected man’?

You may feel as though no one understands your pain and that you want nothing to do with looking at the hurt of your past, but Jesus grasps rejection at a level that no other human being can comprehend.  He knows, He understands, and He can help!

When we are lost, we need the Saviour; oppressed, we need the Deliver; alone, we need the Comforter, but when we are despised and rejected, we need the Man of Sorrows.

Isaiah 53:3 is a powerful Scripture that, when pondered slowly and carefully with the Lord, could change the way you look at everything including your perception of God … and you!

The Word is sharp, alive, and active and can separate between what you feel and who you truly are.  Jesus allowed Himself to be rejected in the most cruel and inhumane way, so that you can find deep healing from the pain, trauma, and shame of rejection.

Agreements are powerful and spiritually binding.

As you slowly read through Isaiah 53, consider asking the Lord to reveal Himself to you and to show you the ways that you have come into agreement with rejection. Acknowledge what He shows you by agreeing with His truth.

You can choose today to come out of agreement with the lies of rejection and receive the Lord’s truth.  “Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:32)

This is how we apply into our lives what Jesus accomplished on the cross, a divine exchange!
