When the King saw Queen Esther … she won his favour and he held out the gold sceptre’
Esther 5:2, GNB

Being in the right place at the right time is key to God bringing about His plans and purposes in any of our lives.

In the backdrop to the ascension to the throne of Queen Esther, a sinister plot was emerging in the heart of one, Haman, who, after his own promotion, was angry that Mordecai would not kneel down and pay homage to him. The death sentence and nothing less than the annihilation of the whole Jewish nation was issued.

Mordecai solicited Esther’s help with the statement ‘who knows if you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?’ This was her hour of destiny. Esther was Queen – not only for herself – but for her nation, and before presenting herself to the king, she humbly prostrated herself before the King of kings. The battle was won in the prayer closet. After three days of prayer and fasting, and with the full knowledge that she was endangering her own life by breaking the law and going to the king, unbidden, Esther was ready. She won his favour and he held out the golden sceptre.

From this time onward, Haman’s decline was imminent, leading eventually to his ultimate demise, while Mordecai was publicly honoured for saving the king’s life. The plight of the Jewish nation was reversed and their enemies destroyed.

‘If God be for us … who can be against us?’ (Romans 8:31). The calling of God is irrevocable. Our part is to pray and obey. We cannot see what the enemy is planning, but rest assured – God always has the answer.

‘No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD,
And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the LORD’
(Isaiah 54:17).

God is able to turn things around quickly. It is as we continue to obey that God works on our behalf and the strongholds that the enemy has put in place are dismantled. A reversal of circumstances take place!

Esther had no advocate, but we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. Through Christ’s victory on the cross of Calvary, God is holding out the golden sceptre to us today … and He bids us enter through the new and living way. Because of Jesus, we have won God’s favour.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the favour that You have bestowed on us through the death and resurrection of Your Son Jesus. Help us to be quick to be obedient to the voice of your Holy Spirit that Thy will might be done in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
