But those who wish to boast should boast in this alone: that they truly know me and understand that I am the Lord who demonstrates unfailing love and who brings justice and righteousness to the earth, and that I delight in these things. I, the Lord, have spoken!
Jeremiah 9:24, NLT

What do we boast about? Do we boast about what we’ve done, who we know, where we live, or what car we drive? Our scripture today tells us we should only boast about one thing - that we know the Lord. As we look at this scripture, we see that knowing the Lord is quite a complex thing. It includes understanding that He demonstrates unfailing love and that He cares for us.

We can understand that in our heads, but can we truly know and understand it in our hearts? Have we experienced it personally? He says He delights in these things. This tells me that He’s always showing us unfailing love. If we don’t see it in our lives, it may be that we need to change our way of looking at things.

If my husband does something around the house, especially to show me that he loves me, and I don’t notice it, he’ll be sad. If I never noticed what he does for me, he might stop doing things for me. But God isn’t like that. His love is unfailing We need to stop our busyness, take time to notice what He’s done, and be thankful.

When our eyes are open to see how He shows us His love, we have a testimony to share with others. We can impact the world for Christ. I encourage you today, boast about God and what He’s done. He’s good. He deserves all the glory. Be a light for Him, as you boast about Him.

Prayer: Father, forgive me for the times when I’ve focussed on my needs and not seen the ways You’re showing me love. Open my eyes to see Your love for me. Forgive me also for boasting about my own life, as if it was my doing. Give me boldness to boast about You to the people I meet today. Amen.
