…looking to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2, NKJ

Jesus is the Author of an amazing story of faith - a dynamic story of redemption. The story is outworked in a war zone. Everywhere is death and destruction. The characters are blind, confused and lost and what they need is a warrior hero to rescue them. Like many good stories, initially the hero works unrecognized and behind the scenes and only much later his true identity is gloriously revealed.

Earthly authors work in different ways. Some know every bit of the story before they put pen to paper. Some start and see where the story takes them. Some find their story develops along the way as the characters mature, leading to a final unexpected conclusion.

Jesus, the heavenly Author, knew from the beginning what He planned for the conclusion and how the main plot would unfold. He was certain about His part in the story but there were some things He couldn’t be certain about. The freedom to choose was given to mankind at creation. This meant that some would choose to follow their own sub plots to a conclusion that Jesus didn’t desire (even though He was the Author and Creator of all the characters).

What an amazing truth that Jesus was prepared to do whatever it took to complete the necessary work of salvation - even through the pain of the cross. He devised the plan, wrote the plot and was willing to allow it to unfold, with Himself as the main player. He endured the cross and all its agony.

Life is truly an interactive book. The Author works with men and women on their life journeys in a myriad of subplots. He is the Author and Finisher but the process of writing the full story depends on each one of us playing our part.

Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You have authored the story of my life and that I have a part to play as this wonderful narrative of eternity unfolds. Amen.
