Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Are you a ‘High Definition’ Christian?

So that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life.
Philippians 2:15-16, NIV

According to current advertising it would seem that the latest ‘must have’ in home entertainment is an HD television. These ‘High Definition’ televisions are said to give a much improved and brighter, clearer picture in which everything can be seen in greater detail. These new TVs are designed to give a sharper, crisper picture and display an image which is bright, clear and easily seen, and more like the real thing.

What about us? As Christians shouldn’t our lives portray an image of Jesus which is clear, easily defined and as close to the real thing as possible? Perhaps there are areas which are somewhat blurred and indistinct and not always as clear as they should be.

We may not be called to hold a prominent position – but perhaps a strategic place in the home; not a church leader – but nevertheless a very valuable member of the congregation. Wherever God has placed us we have an image and a message to convey. Is this message clear and undistorted? Is there indeed a contrast between us and those around us, who don’t profess to be Christians, in what we say and what we do? Is the contrast obvious? Or in the interest of ‘Political Correctness’ is our image becoming increasingly more fuzzy and indistinct as we merge in with the majority.

In these dark days God is looking for a people who can be a beacon on a hill projecting a beam of light which is bright and clearly defined as it seeks to present the un-distorted truth of God. The Apostle Paul says ‘If the trumpet does not sound a clear call, who will get ready for the battle?’ (1 Corinthians 14:8), and these challenging words are included in Chris Bowater’s song ‘Here I am’ (1981 Sovereign Lifestyle Music, Ltd):

‘As salt our we ready to savour,
In darkness are we ready to be light?
God’s seeking out a very special people
To manifest His truth and His might.’

Prayer: Dear Lord, I’m sorry that the image I so often portray of You isn’t always what it should be, please help me to portray a clearer and more distinct image of You from today onwards. Amen.
