Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Seeds of the Kingdom

Alpha and Omega

by Pam Smith

I am the Alpha and the Omega – the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God, “I am the one who is, who always was, and who is still to come, the Almighty One.
Revelation 1:8, NLT

He is the Beginning and the End. Now that makes a lot of sense to me, because before the world was created, and before God created man, the pinnacle of His creation, and before time, God existed. He will exist with us for all time to come, although with Him there isn’t really any time as we know it. This is hard to imagine, but I understand that this is why Jesus can say to us, “Don’t be afraid.”

We’re safe and secure with God, whether we’re in an earthquake in Japan, in outer space as an astronaut, or in a battle with a terminal sickness. As long as we know our Lord Jesus is the centre of our being we won’t fear if the mountains tremble or the stars fall down. He’s our Rock of Ages and our firm foundation. We’re complete in Him, like a book that’s complete when the last page is written, ready to be published and read.

I once heard a story of a young man in Austria, whose mother had taught him, as a child, the 23rd Psalm. To emphasise ‘The Lord is my Shepherd’ she would hold tightly on to his fourth finger. One day he was called out in a snow blizzard on a rescue mission, and was buried in a snowdrift. He was later found, completely frozen and gripping his fourth finger tightly. He was hanging on to the Lord Jesus for he knew the truth that his mother had given him. This was a great comfort to his mother.

‘Don’t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. I am the Living one who died. Look, I am alive forever and ever’ (Revelation 1:17-18).

Prayer: Lord, thank You, that, in this uncertain world, You’re the Rock on which my whole life and future depends. Help me to spread the certainty of Your love and redemption to those I can reach, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
