Seeds of the Kingdom

A Time for Change

by Lynda Scott

“Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past. “Behold, I will do something new, now it will spring forth; will you not be aware of if? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert.””
Isaiah 43:18-19, NASB

Many at this time of year are making their plans for the year ahead. Many choices and decisions may come into the planning. Sometimes there are changes, such as planning for a new school, a new university, a marriage partner, having children, a new job or even leaving work and planning for the latter years. It is one thing to make your own plans but it is another when God Himself makes the plans. This is the place I want to begin 2017. In step with God’s plans for me.

I have been preparing for such a change for the past few years. But I could not see how it could possibly happen. I have spent hours and hours thinking and praying about it. I tried to work it out in my own mind and always came up without a solution. However in the midst of it all I have trusted that when the time was right He would open the door for this change. Just before Christmas as I was going about my everyday life, the opportunity I have been waiting for opened up before me! It was such a perfect solution. I was totally amazed and praising God. This was not my plans for change for the New Year. This was God’s plan and the answer to my prayers that I have waited a long time for and this has all happened at exactly the right time.

I believe today’s verse from Isaiah speaks directly to us about God’s heart to bring change in our lives. We are not to look back, no matter what has come before. God is planning a new thing and now is the time for it to spring forth. And just in case you are not convinced God adds the last sentence - I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, rivers in the desert. That means nothing is impossible.

So if you are in a time of change, commit your way to the Lord. Even when everything seems to not come together with your own plans that is okay. Keep trusting Him. When the time is perfect God will come through and provide for you a solution beyond what you could ever imagine. He will come through, He always does.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You that Your thoughts and plans are not our thoughts and plans. Yours are so much better. Help me to surrender my own plans to You. I commit my way this year to You. May Your plans for my life come to pass, in Your name, Amen.
