A New Beginning

And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the Breath of Life; and the man became a living being.
Genesis 2:7, NKJV

In the Bible we read of how the very first human being came into being – ‘And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the Breath of Life; and the man became a living being’ (Genesis 2:7). And I remember as a student nurse, one of the most unbelievable and impacting things that I ever experienced was seeing, for the first time, the birth of a baby. First I saw the head, then the little body, then I heard that first baby cry, and suddenly it was there, from a tiny space into a big world - a brand new little person. To me it was a complete miracle. I was full of awe for quite a few days.

There’s also something beautiful and exciting about seeing someone born of the Spirit. That’s the ultimate new beginning. This is when God breathes the breath of his Holy Spirit into our spirit and new life comes to us through faith in Jesus Christ. As Jesus said to Nicodemas, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit (John 3:5-8).

You can’t see what’s going on inside people when they’re born again, but you can see the change and the fruit in their lives. If you would really like to begin your life all over again, and leave the old life behind, turn around and ask the risen Saviour to breathe His life into you, and begin to see the world with a completely new perspective, with a clean heart, a new hope, knowing that He holds your future firmly in His hand.

And if you’re a believer and need a new, fresh touch from the Lord, ask Him to fill you again with His love. His mercies are new every morning. He can make today a new beginning for you just like a new bud in Spring responding to the warmth of the sun.

Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank You for Your mercies this very morning. Breathe on me Breath of God, fill me with life anew, that I may really know You and love You. In Jesus’ Name.
