Jesus Is Coming Soon for His Bride

by Bernard Kariuki

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3:20, NIV

Do we dream of heaven and long for it the way we dream about our favourite destination? When we set our minds on things of heaven, we are less likely to fall in love with the things of this world.

Heaven is beyond anything we can imagine according to Revelation 21:21-23. It’s a city of pure gold, a place that needs no light from the sun or the moon, because the glory of God Himself provides its light.

Jesus told us that He has gone to prepare a place for us, His bride, so that we may be with Him forever.

He is coming for a pure and spotless bride. We’re that bride, and the rapture will be the means for Jesus reuniting with His bride forever. `

`For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so, we will be with the Lord forever` (1 Thessalonians 4:16-17).

Because of this hope, when believers die, we do not mourn as those who have no hope. Scripture tells us that those who die in Christ are like those who are asleep. And who doesn’t appreciate a good night’s sleep? People go to great lengths to have restful sleep because it is peaceful, comforting, refreshing, and renewing.

In the same way, believers who pass away are resting in peace as they await the trumpet call. The apostle Paul tells us that when the Lord returns, those who have died in Christ will be caught up first to meet Him in the air. Then those who are still alive will join them, and together we will be with the Lord forever.

Also, we’re encouraged by Paul’s words, in 1 Corinthians 15:43, that `our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They’re buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength`.

`After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord for ever. Therefore encourage one another with these words` (1 Thessalonians 4:17-8).1

These should give us encouragement that one day we’ll be reunited with our Bridegroom. We should eagerly wait for that day as a young bride and groom eagerly look forward to the day of their wedding. `Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready` (Revelation 19:7).

We do not know the day or the hour of His return, but we do know that He is coming soon. Because of that, we should make every day count for Him. What a glorious day it will be when we reign with Christ forever!
