King Asa - Part 2
by Angela Weir
“Lord, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us O Lord our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O Lord, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!”
King Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God. He cleaned up the land by removing the altars of the foreign gods and the high places used for worship and he knew to call on the Lord in times of battle. When the Ethiopian, Zerah, came against him with huge forces, he cried out to God for help and was rescued from a seemingly impossible situation.
There are times when everything around us looks impossible. Whichever way we turn it seems as though there is an impenetrable wall of difficulties and the options are incredibly limited. We all know the story of the man who took over writing the Dan Dare comic story and had got Dan into an impossible situation with enemies pressing in on every side. He took the story to the original writer who was ill in bed and he simply wrote, “With one bound, Dan was free!” That’s rather what it was like for Asa as God intervened and defeated the Ethiopians. Asa and his men were still fighting but God had come in on their side and the overwhelming odds suddenly weren’t overwhelming any more.
When we are doing God’s will, He will always see us through, no matter how difficult the problems seem to be. It does not mean that He will rescue us out of the difficult situations, but that He will see us through them if we put our trust in Him.
Prayer: Dearest Father, thank You for Your promise always to be with me. I know that when I am in the centre of Your will, no matter how hard life seems, You will be there to guide and direct me. Thank You so much that You are totally trustworthy. Amen.
