Jesus answered, “If you knew the gift of God, and who is saying to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would ask Him, and He would give you living water.”
“It’s all about God and not about me!” is a phrase that I have often used to correct my attitude and effort towards the Lord. Sharing this with another follower of Christ he affirmed the truth of that statement but suggested that I might be using it to hold back gifts that the Lord would like for me to use more freely in the exercise of my ministry. An example my friend used was that of bamboo. In some parts of the world hollow bamboo rods make a very efficient water delivery system. However the membranes inside the rods have to be cleared out in order for the water to move through unhindered.
Like the bamboo rods we need to allow our inner membranes to be cleaned out, so that Living Water will flow through us more easily. God gives us that Living Water, intending for it to help others.
The woman at the well had secrets but Jesus knew them all and He wanted her to be free. It’s the same for you and me. He knows all our secrets but wants to take the burden of those hidden things that keep His Living Water from doing its work.
Our lives are ALL about God but He wants us to be conduits of His Living Water, unrestrained by excuses, wounds, or wrong belief systems that might keep us from surrendering to and obeying Him. We don’t need to come with false humility or a concern about how others might react. He has a plan for each of us. Let’s align ourselves with that plan and let the Living Water flow through us.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want Your living water to flow through me unhindered by any self talk or excuse that would hold me back. I want to receive all that You know I need to be Living Water for those You send into my life. Amen.
