The God-shaped Hole

by Pam Smith

For it is God who commanded the light shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 4:6, NKJV

The world wants this treasure that we have. They may not know it but they are hungry and thirsty for something that will fill the ‘God-shaped hole’ that God has put in all mankind, for – ‘He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts’ (Ecclesiastes 3:11).

Many think that they have found deep satisfaction, and an answer to their spiritual, physical and mental search for life in many avenues, only to find that it doesn’t fit the ‘God-shaped hole’ that was created to be filled by God Himself. Many are blinded to truth and walk in deep darkness. O how the heart of God aches to gather them, but they have free will to walk away from Him.

Yet when someone does find the light of the glorious truth of Jesus Christ, and experiences the rivers of living water flowing from inside them they truly ‘know that they know that they know!’ Their God-shaped hole has been filled and they’re satisfied.

Let’s be prepared to share this wonderful treasure even when we least expect to do so. If someone is really hungry for the truth and believes that we have found it, the Lord may be asking us to speak or pray with them, and to love them as Jesus does. He may just have brought them to our door today.

"See they are watching, looking at you, silently watching, all that you do, seeming so careless, hardened and lost. Love never faileth, count not the cost." F. Kirkland.

Prayer: Lord, fill me with your love and please help me to be ready to share this treasure with someone that I meet today, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
