In the beginning, before anything else existed, was the Word of Life, who was with the Father even before the creation of the world. Together with the Spirit they were separately, and corporately, God. And God said, “Let there be light.”
The world came into being and mankind was born, but a spiritual darkness was let loose which was to contaminate the world. The serpent had infiltrated God’s design by introducing sin. Man fell for his deception and became separated from God. Darkness reigned until, in the fullness of time, God sent His Light into the world, so that through Him man’s relationship with God could be restored.
Jesus came from the realms of glory and was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born in humility. He came to bring light into a dark world. His coming was revealed to the shepherds by a heavenly host of angels, sent by God. ‘The people living in darkness have seen a great light’. For those living under the shadow of death a new light had dawned. Pure and untainted by the sin of the world, the Word of Life became man.
Now He was in the world, and though the world was created through Him, the world did not know Him. His coming had been foretold by the prophets many years before and recorded in the Scriptures, but the people did not recognise Him. He came as their Redeemer and Saviour, but redemption was despised and salvation rejected. He knew pain and suffering; a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief, yet He shared the love of God with all who met Him. To everyone who received Him, and to all who believed in His name He gave the right to become children of God, to be born again, not by a natural human birth, but born of the Holy Spirit, and of God.
See the excitement of the Apostle John as He describes His experiences in walking with this man for almost three years: “The One who was from the beginning, who had been made known by the prophets to be the Saviour of the world has been revealed to us. We have heard Him and seen Him. This man from Galilee, the Light of the World who came from God, we have been with Him and have touched Him! The One who came from the presence of the Father to show us the Way to God was Himself the Word of Life. We are witnessed to His wisdom, His love and compassion and we have walked with Him and lived in His shadow. He promises eternal life to all who would received Him, and I want to declare to you now the truth of what I have seen and heard. He alone is the way to life and to God”.
Receive Him now and know the joy of a new relationship with God the Father.
Prayer: Father, thank You for Your Son. Thank You that through Him I see You and am drawn into Your presence, having tasted the joy of Your salvation. Help me to share this truth with others, so that they too can know the excitement of walking with the Word of Life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
