Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.
Colossians 3:2, NIV

Consider a baby bird growing inside an egg, it grows inside this safe and nutritious environment knowing nothing other than the inside of its egg, yet at the right time when it has grown strong enough its focus shifts to pecking its way out of this egg. It doesn`t know anything about the outside world, yet it instinctively knows that its destiny lies somewhere outside of that egg.

The bird has a bit of a battle to crack its way out of the egg, What if it didn`t have that faith to know that its destiny lies outside the egg? What if its will was not strong enough to keep pecking away at the shell and instead became distracted by its surroundings within the shell. It would perish and die, never knowing the new life that awaited it.

We also know, by the spirit of Christ that dwells within us that our true destiny lies beyond this world. What would happen to us if we didn’t know the destiny that awaits us? What would happen if we ceased to fight the good fight, instead turning away from our destiny as children of God to pursue the desires of this world in which we dwell? We would surely perish in this world!

We are not of this world, our true home is with our Father in his kingdom. Be separate and do not give any more importance than is necessary to this world in which we live. No matter how the things of the world beckon or reject you, keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, for he is the way, and look back only to encourage others to do the same!

Prayer: Holy Father, help us Lord to seek not the things of this world, for this world in its present form is passing away, but rather, help us Father to keep our eyes fixed on the beautiful face of your son, our saviour Jesus Christ who is the way out of this earthly sojourn and into our true eternal home with you in your heavenly kingdom. In Jesus name, Amen.
