The Ultimate Hijack

Jesus drew near and said to them,'I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples'
Matthew 28:18-19, GNB

The captain of an aeroplane is delegated authority by the airline company to pilot the plane between particular airports at a particular time. He is given the right to take charge of the flight. If a hijacker stands up during the journey, wielding a gun, and demands control of the aeroplane, he is claiming a right which has not been justly given to him and thus he contravenes international law.

When mankind claims that he has been born with rights, for example to life and liberty, irrespective of his relationship with God, he is, I suggest, contravening divine law. As a result, he is, in effect, hijacking the delegated authority that comes from God. The word of God makes clear that we have innate value but not innate rights. Such rights to abundant life can only be given by someone who has greater authority than ourselves and the source of this authority, or sovereignty, is Jesus Christ alone.

Sin has defiled the flow of authority, or rights, from God to man and it can only be restored now through the New Covenant agreement that God has established with mankind through the death of Jesus on a cross. When we receive Him, only then do we have the right to become children of God (John 1:12) and so walk in the delegated authority which comes from Jesus, allowing us to claim the abundant life and freedom that God has always wanted for us.

At the Ellel Ministries international conference, entitled God of the Breakthrough, I have been asked to explore this topic in more detail, in one of the teaching seminars. I hope you will be able to join us at Blackpool and, through the wide variety of speakers, be challenged and equipped by God in these particularly critical times. (See the link below).

Prayer: Father God, I confess that we have frequently seen ourselves as the source of all sovereignty in our lives, rather than You. Help us to find again the true rights of man and all the blessings that can flow from a covenant relationship with You.
