Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11
The God who answers prayer
by Liz Griffin
I love the LORD, because he hears me; he listens to my prayers. He listens to me every time I call to him.
Do you love the Lord because he hears you? Do you know he listens to your prayers? David was known as a man who was close to God and is described as a man ‘after God’s own heart’.
In Psalm 116 we learn about a time when David called out to God thinking he was about to die. God didn’t let him die. Why not? David explains that ‘the Lord is merciful and good; our God is compassionate’(Psalm 116:5).
David knew God had been merciful to him personally and now his relationship with God was stronger than ever. David admitted he had been full of fear when he was in danger, but he had called out to the Lord in his distress. He knew God had intervened in his situation and saved his life. Now he felt so close to God and was conscious of walking in His presence.
We all talk to ourselves, either out loud or silently, but do we speak encouragement to our hearts? David spoke to himself saying, ‘be confident my heart, because the Lord has been good to me.’ He was reinforcing his faith and reminding himself of his blessings.
David didn’t stop there. He wanted to thank the Lord and show his gratitude. He didn’t want to keep his joy to himself, so he decided to give a public thank offering of wine in the Temple and to pray a thanksgiving prayer in front of all the people. His personal faith and testimony was to bless generations of believers down through the ages.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I want to be like David and remind myself of Your goodness and mercy. I want to share my testimony with others and encourage them to put their trust in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen
