Seeds of the Kingdom

My Times Are In His Hands

by Pam Smith

But as for me, I trust in You O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hand.
Psalm 31:14-15, NKJV

My Grandson recently announced, “When I’ve finished being four, I’m going to be five.” Now I thought that was quite a profound statement, and it reminded me that when I’ve finished living in God’s presence here on earth, I’m going to live in His presence in His eternal Kingdom in heaven, for evermore. As sure as these two statements are true, I can be sure that ‘My times are in His hands’.

Whatever our future, He knows it already, for He’s the God of the now. ‘I’AM’ is His name. With Him there’s no past or future time, for He’s timeless. For Him, the past and the future, is now, and we’re not going into the future, as we know it, until we’ve finished what God’s planned for us to do, or be, in the present. So don’t worry about it. He’s got it in hand. Also, another truth is, that in God’s eyes a Christian will never die prematurely.

David knew this secret; that his times were in God’s hand. That’s why he went on to write, in the same Psalm, ‘Oh, how great is your goodness, which you have laid up for those who fear you, which you have prepared for those who trust in you, in the presence of the sons of men. You shall hide them in the secret place of your presence from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion, from the strife of tongues’ (Psalm 31:19-20).

We’re to be like children in our faith. All He wants of us is to love Him and act accordingly. All a parent wants is for their child to love them now, and act accordingly, in obedience and trust.

My times are in Thy hand, Why should I doubt or fear,
A Father’s hand will never cause His child a needless care.
My times are in Thy hand, Jesus, the crucified,
The hand my cruel sins had pierced, Is now my guard and guide.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to be ‘little’ in Your presence, and to love and trust You implicitly, for we know our lives are in Your hands. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
