Seeds of the Kingdom

Transformed

by Joan Rono

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23, NIV

I can’t help but admire the fellowship Moses had with God, His encounters with God were not just about the nation of Israel. I believe he benefited greatly as He spent time in God’s presence. The more He spent time in the glory of God, the more transformation happened to Him. He was transformed from being a murderer, and also a fearful and insecure person, into being a leader of a great and mighty nation. I believe that His time in God’s presence made a great deal of a difference in his personal character. The more you spend time with someone, the more you know them and learn to become like them.

Jesus knew that the time He spent with the disciples changed them. Every word He spoke, every action, every miracle was an opportunity of investing something of Himself into them. Then the time came when He asked them to go out into the world and do what He did (Matthew 10).

When we spend time in the presence of God we become more and more like Him. How we talk, how we react to situations and how we relate to others begins to reflect Him. When Moses went up the mountain to talk with the God, everyone was able to see the physical change in him. They couldn’t look at his face.

Joshua went into the tent of meeting and stayed there. We’re not told if he was praying, or just basking in the presence of God’s glory, but we see him change into being a leader who brought change and influence to the nation of Israel. Daniel regularly had times of fellowship with God, and when difficulty came God manifested His miracle, causing a whole nation to turn to the one, true and living, God.

The presence of God transforms us. When we spend time with Him, we begin to know His heart beat and His will. The Holy Spirit reveals the heart of the Father to us. We get drawn into Him; His will His purposes and His passion.

Jesus said ‘I and the Father are one’. His desire is that we may be one with Him, that we may even feel what He feels. I believe that as we’re baptised in His love and His Holy Spirit we begin to bear fruit. The fruit of the Holy Spirit is birthed from the very character of God. This all comes from His character, and who He is becomes transferred into us.
’But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law’ (Galatians 5:22-23).

Prayer: Lord, help me to be changed into Your likeness, to be more like You in my character and actions. Teach me to dwell in Your presence daily, and to be transformed more and more into who You have purposed and designed me to be, Your child. Amen.
