The Ellel Ministries Young People’s Team
The Young People's Team is a fantastic gap year opportunity for any young person aged 18-25, who wants to give a year of their life to serve God at one of the Ellel Ministries centres.
Why join the Young People’s Team?
Why do young people give a year of their life to serve God by living in one of our centres and helping to run the centre? Find out below...
It has eternal value!
There is the satisfaction of knowing your work is part of something special. It helps create an environment for God to meet with people and change their lives for the better.
YPT help with the day to day running and upkeep of our centres. Your active duties may include:
- practical support in welcoming our guests
- duties in the house, kitchen and dining areas
- possible placements in other departments, such as audiovisual, maintenance, reception etc depending on your skills
What you will be doing depends on the size of the centre – at a smaller centre, where “everyone does everything” you could be involved in many things, while the larger centres have a team of people in each department, which can be great fun, but do expect to be flexible.
As a member of the Young People's Team you will work five days a week, eight hours a day. At busy times at the centre or when courses are on, you can expect to work flexible hours, sometimes late at night, sometimes starting early in the morning.
You may never have thought that washing dishes or cleaning toilets is a spiritual act, but with the right heart attitude, it definitely is, and God sees. He cares about every detail of our lives and wants to be involved.
Being at an Ellel Ministries centre gives you an opportunity to hear some of the teaching, and to work through Ellel 365 (our Online Discipleship Programme). One of the comments we hear most often about our teaching, particularly from people of older generations, is “I wish I had known the things I learned from this teaching when I was younger. I would not have made some of the poor decisions or mistakes I did make, and my life would have been so different, so much better”. Being on the Young People's Team gives you opportunities others wish they had had, to sit in on some of the life-changing teaching and to receive some personal prayer ministry. It is a unique opportunity.
You can also use your free time to learn about Prayer Ministry during Healing Retreats, Healing Services, ministry nights and to attend courses. Many YPT will tell you this makes all those evenings cleaning dishes, absolutely worth it! To have the opportunity to learn, on hand, how to pray for people who are hurting, wounded and bound by the enemy will become a foundation in your life that you will be forever grateful for. To be used by the Lord and to experience the healing power of Jesus is a tremendous privilege!
There are plenty of opportunities for you to meet with God and grow in your relationship with Him. Many YPT say that during their time on the team, God’s purpose and destiny for their lives became clearer. You will find encouraging discipleship and godly people to help you. Many testify to how much they have grown in their relationship with God during their year on the Young People’s Team.
All our centres are culturally rich places where you will meet people from all over the world. They may be serving alongside you, or may be attending the courses, and some of these people can become lifelong friends.
We gladly welcome YPT from the nations, although you do need to be able to converse in the language of the centre at which you will be serving. If you are travelling from another country you will be asked to purchase a return ticket and a suitable visa.
This video of Glyndley Manor, made by a YPT from Taiwan, gives a great insight into life as a YPT. Please note that you will be directed to YouTube to watch it. Watch now
There is no charge for being a part of our Young People's Team. In fact, we will provide you with shared accommodation, your meals and a small amount of pocket money per week to help cover essential purchases. We do expect you to pay for your travel and travel documents to the centre.
Being part of the team at an Ellel Ministries centre is not necessarily easy. Many times we have heard those leaving us at the end of their year testify that their time on the Young People's Team has been the most wonderful and the most difficult time of their lives.
Having to get up early in the morning, work as part of a team despite language barriers, away from the comfort of your home life, facing your own personality flaws head-on while living in community and working hard is a challenge. However, challenges are where we grow! Our character develops as we keep a right heart attitude when there are times of difficulty and as we learn to turn to God for strength. So God may well want to bring some challenges into your life! Are you ready for something new?
All the centres you could join are located on sizeable estates offering you plenty of space for rest, recreation and lots of fun in your spare time. Since you will be a part of a team there are often things going on that you can be a part of. The larger the centre, the more people there are to share the fun, while at a smaller centre you get to know everyone and that makes it more personal. You will probably also want to make the most of your stay in another country by going sight-seeing or exploring with your new YPT friends.
It’s Life Changing!
You get out what you put in! It’s that simple! If you take up the challenge, seize the opportunities on offer and come with a heart to serve, you will be richly blessed. The Young People's Team has all the ingredients to change your life for the better. What are you waiting for?
