Oh, Come Let Us Adore Him

Praise the Lord from the heavens,
Praise Him in the heights above.
Praise Him all his angels,
Praise Him all his heavenly hosts…
Praise the Lord from the earth,
You great sea creatures and all ocean depths…
Psalms 148:1,NIV

So the Lord is to be the centre of all worship. This Psalm gives us the picture of how both the spiritual beings in the heavenlies, as well as the universe itself are all worshipping the Lord. The stars shine for Him, the angels sing to Him. The sun and the moon, set in place by Him, may be there for our sake, but, as His creation, they are involved in the worship of the Creator.

This mighty worship from the heavens is to be echoed from the earth. And if we have difficulties in understanding how the stars, sun and moon can engage in worship, what are we to say then about the earthly beings that are called upon to worship! Lightning, hail, snow and stormy winds, sea monsters, wild animals and cattle are all in the mighty choir singing His praises! Truly, ‘all things were created by Him, and for Him’. So, when other parts of His creation are praising Him, let’s join them in doing so!

Somehow it seems more legitimate, even for those not professing faith in Jesus Christ, to sing worship to him during the Christmas season. ‘Jingle bells’, ‘Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer’ and their like are all beaten in popularity by ‘Silent Night’ and other Christian hymns. A secular Swedish radio station listed only Christian hymns among the five most popular songs sung by choirs the weeks before Christmas. So, let’s take the opportunity to join the heavenly beings, and echo from the earth a mighty sound of worship and praise to Him who’s both worthy and wonderful! Others may do so from tradition and habit, but we will do it as our heartfelt shout of joy and adoration!

Some are definitely trying to promote some Christmas business by making their customers listen to ‘Silent Night’ over and over again, but let’s take up the challenge, and invite people ‘Oh, come let us adore Him, oh, come let us adore Him, oh, come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord!’ Some people around you may be drawn to join you. The worship of the King may sound louder from the earth, if you join with all of creation in the worship of Jesus Christ!

Prayer: Thank you Lord Jesus that you are worthy of our worship. Thank you that there is no-one else in the whole of the uiniverse through whom we can know Father God. I pray that this Christmas, many will be provoked to consider who Jesus really is through those who are truly worshipping the King. In Jesus' name, Amen.
