God’s Olive Tree

by Lynda Scott

“I want you to understand this mystery, dear brothers and sisters so that you will not feel proud about yourselves. Some of the people of Israel have hard hearts, but this will last only until the full number of Gentiles comes to Christ. And so all Israel will be saved. As the Scriptures say, “The one who rescues will come from Jerusalem, and he will turn Israel away from ungodliness. And this is my covenant with them, that I will take away their sins.””
Romans 11:25-27, NLT

This month I am diverting from what I have been sharing previously, but this is a subject very close to the Lord’s heart and He has really put it on my heart to share with you today.

I have been reading a lot lately on the nation of Israel and God’s heart of love for the Jewish people. Clearly it is one of the major topics in the Bible. Some have thought that the nation of Israel has been replaced by the Church and that the Jewish people are now not important to God. But I am so encouraged to see that our God is a covenant keeping God and that He is going to fully restore the nation of Israel. It is totally in the heart of Jesus for us to be one, as Paul describes in Romans 11 as he talks about God’s olive tree, made up of both Jews and Gentiles.

I feel privileged as a Gentile believer to see what the Lord has been doing with the nation of Israel. To see the re-establishment of the nation in 1948 was such a miracle. I also feel the thrill in our days of seeing the Jewish people returning from all nations to Israel. What an amazing fulfillment of Biblical prophecy!

The story of the Jewish people is continuing. As Gentiles, I believe our responsibility towards the Jewish people is to demonstrate the love of Jesus. There has been so much hurt over so many years by the Church towards the Jews. But God indeed has His hand upon them. May I encourage you today if you are a Gentile believer to show love and kindness to the Jewish people and pray for them. And if you are a Jew, please know today how very much you are loved!

Prayer: Father God, thank you that you love the Jewish people and that it is your heart for Jew and Gentile to be one through Jesus, the Messiah. Help me to show Your love to the Jewish people and to pray for them. I pray that you will bless the nation of Israel and bring all of your promises to the Jewish people to pass in the fullness of your time. In Jesus name, Amen.
