Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour
Isaiah 43:1b-3a, NIV

In situations beyond our control, and when all else seems to be failing and there is little hope of coming through, this is where God’s faithfulness to His promises can really become our experience.

After being discharged from hospital following an operation, things began to go seriously wrong. Within a few days, and having been re-admitted to hospital, doctors and nurses were unable to discover the problem causing me to sink so low.

On the day the nurses were expecting me to die, my wife read these words to me and prayed for me. She gave me to the LORD who had the power to heal and the authority to take me to Himself. When she left me, she expected there would be an emergency operation to ascertain what was wrong. That did not happen, but after examining me a few times, the surgeons recognised something was happening which they could not explain. They postponed the operation to the next day. Two and a half-hours after my wife had prayed for me, I walked to the telephone to tell my family that "visiting time is back to normal".

The following morning, and reading those same verses, I was struck by what follows in verse 4; "Since you are precious and honoured in my sight, and because I love you". The impact of those words brought tears of joy and absolute wonder. God had been there all the time, carrying me through that difficult experience. Hallelujah!

When we go through difficult situations beyond our control, and are unaware of His presence, God IS there to support us and carry us through.

Prayer: Thank You Lord, that in difficult situations, I can experience the fulfilment of the promises of Your Word. Please forgive me for the times I worry about situations beyond my control, and help me to rest in peace knowing that You are faithful to Your promises because You love me so much. Amen.

He then moved on to become a lecturer of engineering craft skills before being called of God in his early fifties to become a pastor of a Baptist church. He says that,"having previously experienced an amazing healing on a day others expected me to die, it came as no surprise that God directed me and my wife, Margaret, to become involved with Ellel Ministries."
