One day I had a strong sense of the presence of the Lord all through the day and so I think someone must have been praying for me. I kept smiling, although no one could see me.
There were so many good things in which to give praise (although we should be thankful in everything). I enjoyed breakfast in the sun, and saw that some miniature daffodils had bloomed on the patio. Some neighbours enjoyed having cups of tea made for them, a friend stopped by for dinner and there were some beautiful songs of worship on the Christian radio station. At midnight I was still smiling!
While it’s good to give praise for all these blessings, I thought of how much more valuable and significant effectual prayer is for a persecuted brother or sister suffering for Jesus, imprisoned for their faith, or even being killed. My life can never be compared with such beloved ones.
We can have such joy in knowing Jesus, but at the same time such anguish in prayer for these precious brothers and sisters. Let’s always remember them and pray for them as the Holy Spirit leads. We may not be able to travel far, but in prayer we can go where He leads us.
If you find that there’s someone on your heart today, it may be that the Holy Spirit wants you to lift them up in a special prayer just at this time. Don’t ignore the prompting, which may be for someone with a listening ear! ‘The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much’ (James 5:16). Thank you for anyone who has prayed for me in such times.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for the miracle of prayer. Make us always aware of the need for our prayer at special times. Thank You that You always live to make intercession for us, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
